About this site

The Last Invention is where Eddie Smolyansky works through the debate about AI that could match or outdo people at almost everything, and shares what he finds with friends. Most pages were researched and drafted with AI, then edited by Eddie.

How to read it

Pages link to one another. A linked term has its own page, and hovering over a link previews it, so you can follow a thread as far as you like and come back. The links at the bottom of each page show which pages point to it.

Pages come in a few kinds, and each kind does a different job:

  • Explainers and reading paths give the overall picture, without taking sides.
  • Cruxes set out a disputed question with the strongest case on each side, and say what evidence would change minds.
  • Posts argue for one claim. They are dated and can be wrong.
  • Glossary, people, and sources pages are for reference: a term, what someone said, or what a work argues.

Work in progress

Pages are revised as the debate moves and as Eddie’s thinking changes, and some are still thin. Posts in particular are drafts for discussion: many were drafted by AI and have not been fully reworked, so read them as arguments worth weighing rather than Eddie’s settled views. Quotations and disputed claims are checked against their original sources.
